Completed Project: Megan Nielsen Tania Culottes

Today I have the Megan Nielsen Tania Culottes to show you. The fabric I decided to use is a blue-grey chambray from Boyes, which is very nice and drapes quite well, but I should have used something a little more slippery for these I think, especially for during winter when wearing tights underneath.
I added six inches onto the length of the culottes as they struck me as being too short, but in the end I chopped 3 inches back off because the longer length made me feel a bit frumpy.
I’m not overwhelmed by these – I wanted to try them but I wasn’t sure if they would suit me. I think the full circle skirt for each thigh, coupled with the short length, makes my thighs appear even wider than they actually are, but then again I didn’t like the longer length either.
They are at least practical – I can see me wearing them more in the summer for trips to the park or the beach – so I can sit cross legged without showing all and sundry my knickers!

Ooh, I think these look really lovely and don’t make your thighs look wide at all. They look very cute paired with the boots, suits you a lot!
Thanks. I think they will grow on me!
Yes, they do suit you. I’ve always liked culottes as they’re more practical than skirts. The pattern would look good in lighter weight, summer fabrics too.
They are quite practical, although the fact that each leg is basically a circle skirt means that in a gust of wind I might still end up revealing more than I’d like!
I made these and adore them. However I made mine in very drapey rayon so they hang softly and are very flattering.
I think these look great – could it be that these photos were taken from a lower angle? That distorts proportions a little.
You are right though in a drapey fabric and a high wind things do get risqué!
I saw yours and they look fab on you. I definitely do need to try them in a more drapey and more slippery fabric – rayon would be perfect. You’re right, due to lack of photographer for these I had to use the timer on my camera and set it up propped up on my daughter’s bed! Not the best photography!!
This is a pattern I love but have reservations about. I love the look of it on everyone else, but I have thighs that rub – is it really going to work on me? or end up with serious creeping fabric? Yours look great, but what do you think for the curvier type of figure?
I think as long as the fabric you used was slippery and drapey enough, like a rayon/viscose, it would be fine! I don’t know how curvy you are but I had to cut the XL size for these for a 34″ waist. I was most put out: I know I’m not skinny but I don’t consider myself to be XL either! If you were any bigger than this you’d have to grade the pattern up to your size.
When this pattern is in stock again I plan on attempting to get it… It seems to disappear FAST! I like yours- I like the grey, and I like them with the tights and boots. Seems like a versatile wardrobe piece!
Thanks. I want to make another pair!
