Spring Sewing Swap 2013
Kerry from Kestrel Finds and Makes very kindly organised a Spring Sewing Swap after the success of last year’s swap. I didn’t take part last year, so I was very excited to have the opportunity to participate this year!
The basic idea is to get paired up with someone else from the online sewing community, stalk them for a bit to find out what they like, and then spend £15 on sewing-related goodies to post to them, and of course receive a parcel in return!
Kerry paired me up with Jo from The Amazing Tara Cat. Whilst perusing her blog I discovered she has a penchant for novelty prints and all things nautical – not too dissimilar to me! I found it pretty easy to choose things I thought she would like, and tried to include a variety of goodies.
The same morning that I had gone shopping for her things, my parcel arrived! Here’s a picture of it all nicely wrapped up:
And here is what was inside:
Lucky me, non?! There is just over 2m of the amazing fabric pictured, and it is quite wide. I LOVE IT! I mean, it has hearts and anchors on it: what’s not to love? Jo suggested it might be enough for a Cambie (view A, I assume), which would be good because sadly my amazing Pirate Cambie is way too big at the moment and so is unwearable.
There was also several metres of red ribbon, red gingham trim and ‘hand made with love’ ribbon too – all excellent choices and I’m looking forward to using them somehow! Jo also chose some cute navy buttons with white trim, which I really like, and last, but not least, a miniature bottle of Captain Morgan Dark Rum so I can pirate it up! Arrrrrrrr!
She also included a lovely vintage-style card of Whitstable, which is now pride of place on the mantelpiece in my sewing room 🙂
Thank you so much Jo for your thoughtful gifts, and thank you so much as well to Kerry for organising it. There’s nothing better than getting sewing presents in the post, and I really enjoyed the selfless spending as well and choosing things for someone else! Win all round!

What a lovely parcel, that fabric is fabulous. And booze too!
The rum was a great touch!
I know! It was perfect. I think I actually squealed!
Lovely fabric, it will make a brilliant Cambie. It was great to meet you too on Saturday and I forgot to tell you that I loved the dress you wore. The contrast hem really made it unique, it’s gorgeous!
Thank you so much!
Adorable! What perfect fabric!
The anchors and hearts are lovely, can’t wait to see what you make
They are really cute aren’t they?! Not fully decided yet, at the moment I’m just at that admire-it-but-don’t-cut-into-it stage!
So glad you liked it, and it was really great to meet you in person to thank you for mine. I’ve decided what I’m going to make with my gingham now, hopefully I’ll get a chance to cut it tonight. (and sorry I took so long to comment, I’m a bit behind on my blog reading, just catching up now)
Looking forward to seeing your gingham creation!
