Tabatha’s April Challenge – Days 24 – 26
Sunday 24th April
The fact that I knew I could finish my New Look 6026 top today was key to keeping me motivated to dedicate two hours to sewing. It actually took 2 hours 10 minutes to finish. I like the top a lot – it’s good to have a nice vest top that isn’t made from clingy jersey fabric! I’ll definitely be re-using this pattern. It’s also ideal for using up small remnants for the contrast parts as I only needed 40cm in length – the red polka dot is left over from when I made Simplicity 2692 for Bo Peep (the same pattern Julia made for me for my birthday).
I’m not sure what to start next – either the Colette Chantilly dress or some Simplicity 2317 pyjama bottoms. I have the fabric and notions for both. Decisions, decisions!
Monday 25th April
I worked for just over two hours today; I traced Simplicity 2317 pyjama bottoms in a large. I already had traced the medium for my mother-in-law’s pyjamas, but they weren’t as roomy as I’d like. I cut the fabric and sewed it all together, so I just have to make the casing at the top for the elastic and hem the bottoms. I didn’t even use my sewing machine, I just serged it all together – so quick and easy!
Update: Mr Tweedie had some things he wanted to do tonight, so I had an extra hour of sewing, during which time I finished the pyjama bottoms! They are HUGE, because when I serged them together I ignored the seam allowance, so they’re even bigger than a large! They are fine though and I will still wear them, but next time, I might try serging together a medium and I think that’ll be about right!
Tuesday 26th April
Today’s two sewing hours took place during Little T’s nap and after Mr T got home from work. I traced out my next pattern – the lovely Colette Chantilly dress. I got the main fabric cut. It’s a vintage-style rose print cotton I picked up at the Sewing For Pleasure Show. I can’t wait to see how it turns out!
I can’t believe I only have four sewing days left of my challenge! I’m hoping to finish the Chantilly dress by the end of the month.
