City and Guilds Fashion Level 1 – Weeks 18, 19 & 20
Sooo…I managed to complete my second ‘finished design sheet’. This one is not based on my actual design, but on an alternative design. As our readers know, I was struggling to know what to do with it, but I kept on coming up with small ideas which eventually led to the finished sheet. I decided that Liz was too pale; her hair needed to be darker, and her top needed to be blue instead of white. I then blanket stitched around the edge of the striped fabric, added notes to the bottom right-hand corner, and a sample of the star made out the fabric in the top left corner:
I still have to do my third ‘finished design sheet’, which I haven’t started at all, but I think it’s going to feature beach huts, as I never want to see another nautical star ever again. I think I’m going to use paint, so that the sheet is different again to the other two.
I have now completely finished my style file (the one where I collected images of different trends from AW10 right through to SS11). Here are some photos of the pages and the cover:
I’ve also finished making the skirt. I hand sewed the lining to the zipper tape and hemmed the bottom of the skirt, which didn’t take as long as I thought it would. I hemmed the lining by machine. Here it is:
And yes, Delilah is stretched out to the max. Perhaps a sign that I need to lose some weight. Meh.
Our final session was spent frantically doing waist-band samples of ¼ skirts (which initially seemed like a waste of fabric to me, but in the end it was a good way to use up scraps): one with casing for elastic, one with a tie, and one with casing for a drawstring – all pretty boring stuff to be honest. Thankfully I have three weeks before hand-in date to get all my files sorted. I can’t believe this is nearly over!
